Extras

Extras are hard to predict as they vary from port to port, and from student to student. Typical extras to be aware of are:

Transportation cost to starting & stopping destination (Kristiansand, Norway)

Transportation, food, and hotel costs for the two optional parent ports (where families can visit)

Vaccinations (Amount varies by provider)

Visas (Varies for nationalities and itineraries, approximately 25-200 EUR

“Pocket money” for shore leave in port. Typically students use their pocket money for souvenirs, SIM-cards, clothes, lunch, snacks and dinner in their spare time. All activities organized by the school are covered by the tuition. They should also try to do laundry in port as weather conditions can affect the laundry opportunities on board.

Students should bring small bills in Euros and U.S. Dollars as well as an ATM card where they can access funds for their personal expenses. We also recommend that students bring a credit card with a set limit in case the ATM card is lost, demagnetized, or does not work for any other

Financial Aid

All Norwegian students qualify for the Sørlandet Foundation scholarship of approximately 50% (must have a Norwegian passport as evidence of citizenship to qualify).

For non-Norwegians, there are six AKO scholarships for non-Norwegians.  If you would like to apply to the AKO scholarship, please contact the Registrar at Apply@aplusworldacademy.org

In addition to these two, there are also other organizations that students can apply to. Below is an example list but A+ World Academy will accept payments from any 3rd party, therefore, any scholarship organization can be used.

A+ World Academy seeks out the most qualified students that fit well with our program.

We recognize that our program is expensive and understand that not all families are prepared for the costs of a boarding school. Therefore, we encourage all families to seek financial assistance and we will support this process in any way possible. If letters of guarantee, confirmation of full-time student status, or any form of verification is needed from the school, please provide us sufficient time to respond.

Statens Lånekasse

The Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund (Lånekassen) is a government agency that provides financial support to Norwegian students. Norwegian students can apply for support for a VG2 year abroad (“Utveksling på videregående utenfor Norden”) through “Stiftelsen Fullriggeren Sørlandet”. The Foundation is approved as an exchange organization (Utvekslingsorganisasjon) by SIU which qualifies students at A+ World Academy for support by Lånekassen.
For: Norwegian students on exchange in VG2.
Amount: Approximately 150.000 NOK (Borteboerstipend, Stipend til delvis dekning av skolepenger, utstyrsstipend og reisestipend)
Eligibility: Norwegian students at A+ World Academy qualify for grants from Lånekassen if they fulfil their school’s requirements for exchange. Students will need to fill out a “P-skjema” and obtain a “Forhåndstilsagn” from their Norwegian School. We advise students to contact their school counsellor for more information about exchange requirements.

How to apply:

In order to be granted support from Lånekassen, you will need to fill out an online application on their website. Set a meeting with your school counsellor and make sure that you meet the criteria for “utveksling”. They will give you a ”forhåndstilsagn”.
Fill out “Lånekassens P-skjema”, sign it, and have your Norwegian school sign and stamp it. We will supply a confirmation that you will be paying tuition.
Log in to www.lanekassen.no and apply for “stipend/lån” for “utveksling påvideregående utenfor norden”
Upload supporting documentation that shows the approved exchange organization (Stiftelsen Fullriggeren Sørlandet) what country you are on exchange with (Switzerland). This is our confirmation and the “P-skjema”.
Upload supporting documentation from your Norwegian school. This is the “Forhåndstilsagn”
Upload a confirmation that you are paying tuition. This is the document we give you together with the signed P-skjema.
When to Apply: Applications typically open in May/June of your departure year and will close in the fall of the current year. For example, for students that will attend A+ World Academy in 2021/2022 the applications will open in May/June 2021.
You have an obligation to inform Lånekassen if your circumstances change during your year abroad. If you fail any course or interrupt or take a break from your education program (this including a requested period of time off to go home, suspension, or expulsion from the program), change educational institution or change your academic plan (this includes dropping below the three course load requirement that is considered a full-time schedule), pay less in tuition fees than you stated on your application, or your residential address or civil status changes
